Surfing Mecca & “Country” Lifestyle

North Shore

Oahu’s North Shore is considered to be the surfing mecca of world and also known for its world-class beaches and laid-back “country” lifestyle.  Geographically, the North Shore region stretches from Laie to the east to Mokuleia to the west and includes Kahuku, Sunset, Pupukea, Waimea, Haleiwa, and Waialua in between.   Laie is home to Hawaii’s Brigham Young University campus, the LDS Church Laie Hawaii Temple, and the Polynesian Cultural Center.  The Turtle Bay Resort is just up the road from Laie.  While Waimea Bay is famous for surfing, Waimea Valley is home to an arboretum and botanical gardens, significant religious and cultural sites, and beautiful Waimea Falls.  A large share of North Shore residents are local families with a significant increase from the world-wide surfing community in the winter months.  There are also some celebrities and business moguls who have bought vacation homes in the area.  Most of the residential properties are single-family homes with some townhomes and condos in a couple of areas.  Commercial properties are limited in this region.
